Leaving for Camp

Andrea. leaving Daddy is driving us to our last camp of this year. We are driving 5 hours to go to Lake Ann Camp. It is a great camp with lots of fun things to do.

This year I am in Jump Start. I get to play in a bog, take a ride in an inner tube  down a river and hike some sand dunes. I get to learn more about God too.

Please pray for nice weather because I will be outside a lot! For help for me too as we learn verses and new song and I try to make new friends.

“See” you in a week!

Basboosa

We met a lady who was from Sudan. I liked her.  She gave me this dessert recipe to try and it was good! It is sticky and sweet. She said it was one of the favorite desserts of people in Sudan.

She was fun to talk to. I hope that I can meet her again sometime.

Basboosa

Syrup Ingredients

Basboosa

  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • juice from 1 lemon (or 2 tablespoons orange juice)
  • 1 teaspoon honey(optional)

Cake Ingredients

  • 2 cups semolina
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • blanched split almonds

Prepare syrup first. Dissolve sugar in water in a medium saucepan. Add lemon juice and bring to a boil. Once the syrup begins to boil, add in honey. Reduce heat and allow to slowly boil for about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease and flour a 9×12 baking dish.

Cream together butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add eggs and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine semolina, baking powder, and baking soda. Slowly add to butter and egg mixture. Stir in milk.

Pour mixture into baking dish and smooth with spoon.

Take a butter knife and make diagonal lines from left to right and complete to make diamond shapes. Place an almond in the center of each diamond. Bake for 25 minutes.

Remove cake from oven and pour syrup over cake until no more can be absorbed. Allow to cool for 20 minutes. (Is never served warm…sitting even a day is fine!)

Junior Naturalist Camp

Andrea14June2013
Artist Mark Daniels. Isn’t he great?

Last week we went to Junior Naturalist Camp. It is a camp were we visit a lot of places to learn more about nature. When we are done with the classes, if we volunteer (6 hours) to help one of the places we visited, we earn a Jr. Naturalist certificate and a pin.

I knew most of the stuff that they were teaching, but some of the stuff I didn’t know. It was good review. We went to see the schoolhouse (at Bonneyville) and we did a class about rocks. We went to a forest and learned about trees. We went to the water in Oxbow to learn about water creatures (Mark calls them “aquatic creatures”). We made butterflies when we studied insects. We played games and made some friends.

On the last day, we got caricature pictures drawn. He asked us what was one of our favorite things at camp. I said writing in my journal. I like my picture. Some of the boys had really funny pictures. One was riding on a turtle bigger than he is. Another was riding a snake board, just like a skate board but with a snake.

I am glad camp is over because I can sleep in. Camp was long days (8:00-5:00) all week and we learned a lot! But, I had a lot of fun and wish we could still go.

Soccer Scratch

cleat scratchesDribblingYesterday I had a soccer game. It was much nicer than Saturday’s game!

I played well. I scraped my leg on cleats. I don’t know when or how I did it. It looks worse than it feels. Momma said it is my first “casuality of soccer”. She hopes it is the worse I ever get!

We won our soccer game 3-2!Keep away   Fall

Surprise Guest

Bird on chairSuprise GuestWe accidentally left open the back door.  We were making dinner then we heard something crash in the window! Mommy looked and saw a bird.I took some pictures because he looked funny sitting on Megan’s rocking chair or on our clean dishes.

Silly birdHe flew out the back door.  I helped Mommy “herd” him out.

Megan said “birdies no sit on my rocking chair. Not nice.”

Then I got to play with the bird (picture).
