Junior Naturalist Camp

Artist Mark Daniels. Isn’t he great?

Last week we went to Junior Naturalist Camp. It is a camp were we visit a lot of places to learn more about nature. When we are done with the classes, if we volunteer (6 hours) to help one of the places we visited, we earn a Jr. Naturalist certificate and a pin.

I knew most of the stuff that they were teaching, but some of the stuff I didn’t know. It was good review. We went to see the schoolhouse (at Bonneyville) and we did a class about rocks. We went to a forest and learned about trees. We went to the water in Oxbow to learn about water creatures (Mark calls them “aquatic creatures”). We made butterflies when we studied insects. We played games and made some friends.

On the last day, we got caricature pictures drawn. He asked us what was one of our favorite things at camp. I said writing in my journal. I like my picture. Some of the boys had really funny pictures. One was riding on a turtle bigger than he is. Another was riding a snake board, just like a skate board but with a snake.

I am glad camp is over because I can sleep in. Camp was long days (8:00-5:00) all week and we learned a lot! But, I had a lot of fun and wish we could still go.
