German Cooking

We are learning about Germany this week. We made some cookies.

I liked Engelsaugen (Angel Eyes). They are cookies with a hole in the middle and they have blackberry jam in them. They are supposed to have raspberry. If you want the recipe, let me know.

Yesterday we made Lebkuchen. I liked it, it is a gingerbread type cookie. Mommy used a scale, because the recipe she has used weights.

We also made German Rye Bread. That was yummy, but I was not fussy about the seeds.

I want to do more international cooking. Daddy wants us to do China next week!

Scandinavian Cooking

A couple days ago, we made Scandinavian Snowflake Cookies. It was the first day we were learning about Scandinavia and it was snowing! The countries of Scandinavia are Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Some people consider Finland part too.

We made Finish Pulla bread too. I liked that! It made the house smell so good while it was rising and when it was all finished.

We made snow ice cream because it snows a lot in Scandinavia. This is the recipe for snow ice cream. You have to have some clean clean snow. You use cream or milk, cream is more like ice cream. You put some maple syrup, strawberry or chocolate syrup in it. You have to mix it really good. When the milk is all gone, you have enough snow. Eat and Enjoy!

Do you have a great international recipe we can try?

Golden Birthday!

Today I turned nine! Daddy bought me some flowers.

Oma and Opa came in the night to eat dinner with us. I picked macaroni and cheese (with shell noodles) and ham. We had strawberry Pink Princess Cake and strawberry ice cream and fresh strawberries! Yummm!

I had a good birthday.

P.S. Oma called it my “Golden  Birthday” because I turned 9 on 9/9! Just for fun, Momma took the picture on the left at 9:09.

Petting Zoo at Creation Museum

Petting camelWe went on vacation. After we went to Uncle Joe’s we spent the night at a hotel. Then the next morning we went to the Creation Museum.I liked the museum. If you can go, I think you should. There was Noah and you could ask him questions and he would answer it because it was on this computer. You should go in the kids cave because it had something different. They had these light up things that taught us something. If you want to see pictures of when we went last time with Oma and Opa, they are here.

We went to the petting zoo while Mark and Daddy was at a science program. Then after Mark and Daddy finished the program we went to the petting zoo with them.

Andrea and the dinasourmule

Halloween Weekend

We had a lot of fun this weekend.

We went Trick or Treating.  We went down two blocks and probably 10 houses.  We got a handful of candy at each house!  We went by our friends house in Ohio.  Can you guess who everyone is in the Trick or treat picture?

Then we bobbed for apples, tried to bite into a donut on a string, stayed up late–the boys stayed up till the middle of the night–and we saw horses.

It was a GOOD weekend!

Princess and the Pea

Cold wet princessOnce upon a time, there lived a princess named Andrea.  One cold, rainy day, she knocked on a castle door.  The prince opened the door.  He asked her to spend the night and to eat dinner with the whole family.  She did.  She got to stay in a room with twenty mattresses all the way up to the ceiling!  When no body else was looking, the queen mother put a bean under the mattresses.  Twenty mattresses up to the ceiling

When the princess woke up, the mother asked how did she sleep.  Andrea said, “not very well”.  The queen also asked, “Why didn’t you sleep very well?”  Princess Andrea told her that there was something under her bed.  The queen was very happy because she finally found a real princess for her son. The queen knew Princess Andrea was a real princess because she could feel the bean under her bed!

beautiful princessPrincess Andrea and the princes became friends.  Then a year later they got married.  Then another year later they got a beautiful new daughter and a beautiful son.  Then they lived happily ever after.

The end!

Apple Picking

Apples!Picking applesWalking with DaddyOn Saturday  we had a fun and busy day. We went apple picking.  We picked some apples.  I think they were Cortland apples.  Adrian picked some apples from small branches (the low ones).  He wanted little apples.  I picked from high up in the tree, big apples!  I was on Daddy’s shoulders.

We couldn’t go on the pumpkin ride because it was too busy.  I felt sad, I really wanted to do it.

Enjoying the dayI love fall!Daddy treated us to hot dogs, A&W Root beer and chips.  We got to eat in the car!  We had dessert from Dairy Queen.  We got a Dilly Bar.  Audrey calls it a big chocolate chip ice cream on a stick.  I never had one before.  I liked it.  Audrey says “yum, yum, yum”.

We are going to make applesauce and apple crisp and dried apples.
